Bhutan has a way of slowing you down. Roads curl through pine forests, prayer flags flutter on every ridge, and even the capital feels calm. If you want to see this peaceful Himalayan kingdom without planning permits, hotels and transport yourself, Deyor's Bhutan Bound 7N/8D group trip is a simple way to do it. It is a small-group road journey in a tempo traveller, starting and ending at Bagdogra, with an English-speaking guide throughout.
Why Choose a Group Trip to Bhutan?
Bhutan has strict entry rules, and planning a trip alone means arranging permits, a guide, hotels and the daily Sustainable Development Fee. A group trip bundles all of that into one price. You get a fixed route, a coordinator on the ground and travel companions, so you can focus on the views instead of the logistics.
The Route, Day by Day
Day 1: Bagdogra to Phuentsholing. You land at Bagdogra Airport, meet your Bhutanese tour coordinator and drive about 160 km (5 to 6 hours) through North Bengal's tea estates to Phuentsholing, the southern gateway to Bhutan. After check-in and immigration formalities, the evening is free.
Day 2: Phuentsholing to Thimphu. A scenic uphill drive of 6 to 7 hours takes you past waterfalls and forests, with a stop at Rinchending Goemba monastery. You reach Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, in time for an evening at the cafes and markets.
Day 3: Thimphu to Phobjikha. You cross Dochula Pass (3,100 m), with its 108 memorial chortens and mountain views, and continue to the peaceful Phobjikha Valley. You visit Gangtey Monastery, and in winter you may spot the rare black-necked cranes.
Day 4: Phobjikha to Punakha. A shorter drive of 3 to 4 hours takes you through pine forests and villages, with a stop at Wangdue Phodrang. In Punakha, you visit the grand Punakha Dzong, set where two rivers meet, and walk across one of Bhutan's longest suspension bridges.
Day 5: Punakha to Paro via Chele La Pass. This is the highlight of the drive. You detour to Chele La Pass (3,988 m), the highest motorable point in Bhutan, with views of peaks like Mt. Jomolhari, then descend into the Paro Valley.
Day 6: Tiger's Nest hike. You hike to Taktsang, the famous monastery built on a cliff about 900 m high. The round trip takes 4 to 5 hours through pine forests and prayer flags. After returning to Paro, you visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples.
Day 7: Paro to Phuentsholing. A 6 to 7 hour drive takes you back to the border town, with stops at villages and viewpoints along the way.
Day 8: Phuentsholing to Bagdogra. After breakfast, you drive to Bagdogra Airport for departure.
Price and Dates
The trip costs ₹41,999 per person, plus 5% GST and 2% TCS. Weekly departures run from 31 Oct to 5 Dec, and the first two batches are selling fast, so check the booking page for live seats.
What's Included
The package covers accommodation at every stop, daily breakfast and buffet dinner, sightseeing as per the itinerary, e-permit assistance, one water bottle per person per day, an English-speaking guide, all transfers and the Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per person per day.
Not included: airfare, travel insurance (mandatory for Bhutan), medical and emergency rescue costs, personal expenses and tips, drinks, extra sightseeing or vehicle use, and costs from natural calamities such as landslides, road blockages or strikes.
Who Is This Trip For?
It suits friends, couples and first-time Bhutan travellers who want a comfortable road trip with a guide and no driving. Some drives last 6 to 7 hours, and the Tiger's Nest hike is steep, so a reasonable level of fitness helps. If you would rather ride yourself, Deyor also runs a Bhutan bike expedition.
Quick Tips Before You Go
Buy travel insurance. It is mandatory and not included in the package.
Carry a valid ID for permits and immigration.
Start the Tiger's Nest hike early, when it is cooler and less crowded.
Pack layers, since Dochula and Chele La can be cold even when the valleys are mild.
Dress modestly and stay quiet at temples and dzongs.
